The base of a dental prosthesis is designed to mimic natural gum tissue and is made from carefully pigmented acrylic as polymethyl methacrylate, or PMMA. Visible PMMA surfaces are polished to look as natural as possible and also help prevent bacteria from growing on dentures so they stay fresh and clean.
